Spruce up Your Sportster
Sportster Modifications
Harley-Davidson® bikes are some of the iconic bikes on the road as soon as they roll out of the factory. But a major part of the Harley legacy is customization and modification, and even today, making your bike fit your personality and riding needs is a great way to make your bike even more exciting. The Sportster has long been considered the perfect bike for modification thanks to its versatile design and excellent styling. From the dirt track to the drag strip, the Sportster can take on as many different looks as you want to give it. Below, we’ve gathered some of our favorite ways to customize Sportsters. When you want to take a Sportster for a ride in person, stop by Barnes Harley-Davidson®. Located in Langley, British Columbia, we’re just a short ride from Surrey, Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Chilliwack, and Abbotsford.
Fit to Your Body
Riding a bike that isn’t designed for your body type can be a chore. It’s harder to control, more exhausting to ride, and in some situations, it can look weird, too. But you don’t have to keep your bike with the riding dimensions it came from the factory with. If you need a little bit larger accommodations, go for the Tallboy set up. This kit adds extra height using Tallboy Handlebars. It also gives you a little more leg room with a higher seat, and puts your feet forward for a more natural sitting position. On the other hand, if you need to bring things in a bit, go for the Super Reach kit. The Super Reach Solo Seat lowers the seat to the ground for more confident stand ups and easier mounting. The Super Reach Handlebars bring the controls closer to your body.
Best Performance Upgrades
The Sportster has an excellent power to weight ratio, making it a quick, maneuverable bike. But you can boost that power and performance to new heights with some of the awesome upgrades available from Harley. Whether you’re looking to take home a brand new Sportster with improved horsepower, or add more fuel efficiency and torque to your existing model, Harley has you set. For new models, try a Stage IV engine upgrade through Screamin’ Eagle. This performance upgrade kit features bored out cylinders, a Screamin’ Eagle Heavy Breather Performance Air Filter, and an improved throttle body. The Two-Up Low Profile Rear Shock kit will give you improved handling and suspension performance. Up front, the Premium Ride Single Cartridge Fork Kit will improve fork travel and responsiveness.
Dial up the Style
Style is always a big part of owning a Harley. Whether you like the rugged look of an old school touring bike, or the chopped, stripped down look of a cafe racer, Harleys look great in a number of different styles. If you want to channel the classic look of a true chopper, go for ape hanger handlebars. Fans of cruiser-style bikes should for the Sportster Clubman Handlebars. The Signature Solo Seat makes an excellent addition to this look. For a beefed up look, go for the Fat X 5-Spoke wheel and a Solid Fat Boy Rear Wheel. You can also opt for a larger gas tank for a more solid look that also extends your riding capabilities.
The Sportster is one of the best bikes for modification on the market. No matter what bike you have in mind for the final product, the Sportster is a great foundation. Try upgrading the style for your personal look, or beef up the performance to make a statement on the road.
