2020 and the Future Harley-Davidson® Motorcycles
The end of the decade is upon us and with it comes the dawning of the new Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The 2020 models are here and you’ll want to read up on them now so you can decide which one is going to be right for you. But this time, it’s not just about the new cruisers. It’s a new era for Harley, and you’ll want to be in on the action when all the pieces fall into play. We’ve listed out what you can look forward to this coming year and beyond.
You can also stop by Barnes Harley-Davidson and to chat with fellow enthusiasts about these exciting new changes. We have locations in Langley, Victoria, and Kamloops, British Columbia, so visit us today!
What’s About to Become Vintage
Okay, so maybe they’ll need a few more years before they can be considered vintage, but as with all beginnings, there are also endings. The following motorcycles will not be returning for the 2020 lineup:
- 1200 Custom
- CVO™ Road Glide®
- Electra Glide® Ultra Classic®
- Forty-Eight® Special
- Road Glide® Ultra (replaced)
- Superlow®
- Ultra Limited Low
It’s always sad to see certain models go, but they’re not gone forever. You’ll always be able to find pre-owned models if you see that a personal favorite has gotten the boot. Plus, this makes way for new and exciting developments.
Reflex™ Defensive Rider Systems (RDRS)
Before we get into the bikes, there’s a brand new collection of technology being added to some of the models called the Reflex Defensive Rider Systems (RDRS). These systems are designed to help the rider control the vehicle during acceleration, deceleration, and changing traction conditions.
It works with the latest electronic brake controls and powertrain technology to make some of the more compromising road conditions easier to deal with. These systems include advanced braking, traction control systems, drag torque slip control, vehicle hold control, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
Livewire™
It’s the model everyone’s talking about. The first electric bike from Harley-Davidson (though not necessarily their last). And this one’s going to be a little different from the traditional Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Instead of the big, loud muscle bike you might be used to, you’ll get something sleeker and quieter. We get this isn’t for everyone, but you might also find that this is the perfect set of wheels for you.
The Livewire won’t lack the exceptional Harley-Davidson performance standard and still promises to deliver on power and handling. Go from 0 to 60 in just 3 seconds and enjoy this bike’s excellent battery life. It’s not the traditional Harley bike, but it’s definitely the bike of the future.
The CVO™ Lineup
This year’s CVO lineup will retain two of its previous bikes, the CVO Road Glide has been replaced this year with the CVO Tri Glide®, mixing up the more traditional two-wheeled CVO lineup. Some of the exclusive features for this custom model include the 117cc Milwaukee-Eight® engine, Tomahawk Contrast Cut cast-aluminum wheels, rider and passenger floorboards, muffler tips from the Kahuna Collection, all in two premium paint options: Blizzard White or Black Stardust.
Other 2020 Models
There are a few other additions to the 2020 lineup that might be more in line with what you’d expect from Harley-Davidson. The Road Glide Limited is replacing the Road Glide Ultra, which means you’ll still get all the great features from its predecessor--like the frame-mounted shark-nose fairing and the Twin-Cooled Milwaukee-Eight engine--in a slightly lighter package.
The Low Rider® S is the latest addition to the Softail® lineup, providing a more powerful engine and a slightly different look compared to its non-S counterpart. It also comes with a slightly lower seat height and is a bit heavier.
Future Harley-Davidson® Vehicles
We’re not done revealing what’s coming down the line. There are some models that are designed and nearly ready for release, but you’ll need to wait a little bit before you can get your hands on them.
As part of this new era of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, the company is releasing its own adventure touring motorcycle, the Pan America™. This will allow you to take your travels places where no Harley bike has gone before.
The middleweight Harley-Davidson Bronx™ is the perfect answer for those who want all the style and performance of a classic bike, but in a lighter build. They’re perfect for city riding, where any extra bulk can get in your way.
Future concepts include a brand new custom motorcycle for 2021 and even more electric models. Be on the lookout for e-bicycles, including models for children, and even a lightweight and middleweight commuter bike. Now’s definitely not the time to look away from Harley-Davidson announcements.
While some of these models will take a little while to end up at your favorite motorcycle dealership, some are coming to you very soon!
